About This Guide
The Claremont Computer Network (CCN) created this guide to help students, families, prospective attendees, and visitors travel to the Claremont Colleges entirely car-free using Southern California public transit.
Many visitors assume renting a car or taking a costly rideshare is mandatory. In reality, Claremont is directly served by commuter rail and regional buses connecting directly from LAX and Ontario (ONT) airports.
Flying into LAX
This route connects LAX directly to the Claremont Metrolink Station, located right on the southwest border of Pomona College's campus.

Fares & Official Ticketing (Current as of July 2026):
💡 CCN Local Tip: The Claremont train station drops off on 1st Street, just a 5-minute walk from Pomona College's Smith Campus Center and within walking distance of all undergraduate colleges. If traveling on weekends, opt for Metrolink's $10 Weekend Day Pass for unlimited travel.

Leg 1: LAX Terminals → LA Union Station
⏱️ Estimated Time: 45 – 60 minutes
Transit Method: LAX FlyAway Bus
Where to Board: Pick up at the blue "FlyAway" columns located on the Lower/Arrivals Level outside Terminals 1–7 or Tom Bradley International Terminal (TBIT).

The FlyAway drops off at Patsaouras Transit Plaza. Walk into the main concourse to the Metrolink train platforms.

Leg 2: LA Union Station → Claremont Station
⏱️ Estimated Time: ~1 hour (58 – 65 min)
Transit Method: Metrolink San Bernardino Line Train
Where to Board: Walk to the main train platforms inside LA Union Station.

Arrival Stop: Claremont Station
Disembark directly onto 1st Street at the southwest edge of Pomona College's campus.
⏱️ Total Estimated Travel Time (LAX): 2 hours – 2.5 hours (excluding layover/wait times between transfers)
Flying into ONT
If flying into ONT, local buses connect directly through Pomona Transit Center to drop off near the Claremont Colleges.

💡 CCN Local Tip: ONT is located approximately 10 miles from Claremont. Taking public transit from ONT is substantially faster and easier than commuting across Los Angeles from LAX.

⏱️ Estimated Time: ~20 – 25 minutes
Transit Method: Foothill Transit Route 480 Bus (or quick connection on the Metrolink San Bernardino Line)
Where to Board: Pomona Transit Center
Drop-off Point: Indian Hill Blvd & Santa Fe St (Downtown Claremont / Claremont Station area)
⏱️ Total Estimated Travel Time (ONT): 1 hour 10 minutes – 1 hour 25 minutes (excluding layover/wait times between transfers)
